Formula
Age = Current date - Birth date, with year, month, and day breakdowns.
Example
A person born on 15-06-1998 is 28 years, 2 months, and 5 days old on 20-08-2026.
How is age calculated from two dates?
Subtract the birth day, month and year from the target date. When the day difference is negative, add the number of days in the previous month and reduce the month count by one. When the month difference is negative, add 12 months and reduce the year count by one.
A person born on 15 June 1998 is 28 years, 2 months and 5 days old on 20 August 2026. That is the worked example for this calculator.
The count uses calendar dates, not hours. Both inputs are dates, so the time of day and the time zone are not part of the result.
What does this age calculator not count?
It does not count hours, minutes, or the exact instant of birth. It also does not decide legal age for a contract, a licence, or a benefit. Those rules can depend on the jurisdiction and on the time of birth.
Use the figure to learn a calendar age or to check a form. If a filing, a ticket, or a medical record needs an official age, confirm the rule that applies to that form.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the birth date. Use the real date of birth. The page needs a valid calendar date before it can count.
- Enter the target date. This is the “as of” date. It can be today, a birthday, or a future date.
- Read years, months and days. The result is the completed age on that target date. Change the target date to compare two moments.
Questions about Age Calculator
Does the age calculator include the birthday itself?
On the birthday, the year count increases and the month and day counts are zero if the target day and month match the birth day and month. The result is the completed age on the target date.
Can I calculate age on a future date?
Yes. Put that future date in the target field. The same borrow rules apply, so the result can be an age that has not happened yet.
Why is the month count not simply the difference in month numbers?
Because a later day in the birth month has not been reached yet. The calculator borrows days from the previous month instead of showing a negative day count.
Is this the same as a date-difference calculator?
No. This page returns years, months and days. The date-difference calculator returns the span as a whole number of days.
Read the guide
Use the age calculator when you want completed years, leftover months and leftover days. Use the date-difference calculator when you want the span as a whole number of days. They are not two views of the same output. One borrows months and days. The other divides the date gap by 86,400,000 and floors the result at zero.

- Estimate Age from the inputs you already have.
- Check the result against the formula and the worked example.
- Change one value at a time and compare the new estimate.
Limits to keep in mind
- The figure is only as complete as the inputs on this form.
- Rounding, fees, and local rules can change the real-world number.
