Formula
SI = P × R × T / 100
Example
₹50,000 at 8% for 3 years gives ₹12,000 interest
How do you calculate simple interest?
Multiply principal, rate, and time, then divide by 100. The rate stays applied to the original principal for the whole period. There is no compounding step.
If any of the three inputs is missing or zero, the page asks for valid principal, rate, and years.
A bank deposit that compounds will not match this number. Use the compound-interest page when interest joins the balance.
What is the total amount at the end?
Total = principal + simple interest. For the ₹50,000 example, interest is ₹12,000 and the total is ₹62,000. The on-screen result quotes the interest.
Fees, tax deducted at source, and a rate that changes are not in the formula.
How to use this calculator
- Enter principal, rate, and years. Rate is an annual percent. Years is the time, T.
- Calculate. Interest = P × R × T ÷ 100.
- Add principal if you need the total. The displayed line is the interest. Add the principal yourself if you want the amount repaid.
Questions about Simple Interest Calculator
Does the result include my principal?
No. The result line is the interest only. Add the principal to get the maturity amount.
Can time be in months?
The field is years. For 6 months, enter 0.5 if you want half a year of simple interest.
How is this different from EMI?
EMI repays a loan with a monthly formula on a reducing balance. Simple interest here is P × R × T ÷ 100 on a fixed principal.
Is the rate monthly?
No. The label is an annual rate. Do not type a monthly percent unless you have already turned it into an annual percent.

A SIP adds money every month. Compound interest grows one lump sum. Simple interest pays P × R × T ÷ 100 and does not add interest back onto the principal. A ₹5,000 monthly SIP at 12% for 10 years becomes ₹11,61,695.38 on the SIP page. ₹10,000 at 7% compounded yearly for 5 years becomes ₹14,025.52. ₹50,000 at 8% simple interest for 3 years earns ₹12,000.
